1000 MILES

Visions of slender sports cars driven at fantastic speeds through small towns and country roads, making their way through swarms of wasps and crowds seemingly unaware of any danger.

The Mille Miglia is considered one of the most beautiful races in the world, it is the symbol of a race with epic contours and perfectly mixes sporting spirit, passion for engines and extravagance.
It was a long-distance competitive race that took place in Italy for 24 years between 1927 and 1957. The idea was born from four young fans of cars and races (the "four musketeers"), Count Aymo Maggi of Gradella, his friend, and first financier, Count Franco Mazzotti, both driving the Renzo Castagneto, with excellent organizational skills and a past as a driver, and the journalist Giovanni Canestrini of the "Gazzetta dello Sport", in response to the failure to award the Italian Grand Prix to Brescia, their hometown.
They opted for a route in the shape of eight that ran from Brescia to Rome and returned for a total of 1600 kilometers, hence the name "Mille Miglia". The race was a success and it was decided to repeat it in the following years. Seventy-seven cars participated in the first edition of 1927, twenty-two of which were forced to abandon the race
Adventurous and daring, the 1000 miles had in the risk one of its essential elements of attraction. The variety of the route and the adverse weather conditions together with accidents and setbacks made it unique.
In 1957, the Spanish driver Alfonso de Poertago, less than 40 km from the finish line, left the road at almost 300km/h due to the explosion of a tire. Nine spectators died, including five children. Three days later the Italian government decreed the end of the open road races and therefore of the Mille Miglia.
Today the 1000 Miles is a re-enactment of the historic race, which no longer has the goal of exalting the competition, but the beauty and elegance of vintage cars, whose passage is a symbol.

The design of this scarf tries to evoke the emotions of this sport, tell its history and its evolution. The setting is linked to modern sport, evoking the 1950s, as in the entire second series of sport. This scarf is made with a particular wool, with hand-rolled edges and a manual fringe of 1 cm.
